We both like this one. High enough proof to make me lose vision in one eye for a few seconds (and I liked it). Is it bourbon, is it other? No. Idea. Would buy.

'Twas the night of the seventh tasting, the glass in my hand, The whiskey lay quiet, its flavors unplanned. Not much on the nose, but a hint to unveil, A whisper of vanilla, so sweet and so pale. The sweetest thus far, of the bottles we've tried, Its secrets lay hidden, like stars that wonโ€™t guide. My last guesses floundered, adrift in the mist, So tonight, I'll keep quietโ€”no name will I list. A sip is a story, a guess just a game, But the journey's the joy, not the spirit's name. So here's to the night, to the dram and delight, Merry tasting to all, and to all a good night!

Interesting one today. Fiery, but more at the end. Almost nutty on the front, but canโ€™t really place it. Not bad.

Getting a lot of oak in this one.

Itโ€™s a nice whiskey for sure, but just too much heat for my style. A little drier, thinking itโ€™s a rye.

My stagecoach arrives at the front door of a mansion. Im ushered into a private library, at least 3 stories high with a wheeled ladder. An old man sits in a leather chair. he casually lights a pipe. I say to him โ€˜why have you brought me here?โ€™ He says, after a puff of smoke escapes his lips, โ€˜because my boy, you have seen beyond what others have seen, you have touched the veil and glimpsed the other side but retained your humanity.โ€™ The sconces on the walls burn brighter. โ€˜You mean, what I sawโ€ฆwhat happened to my uncleโ€ฆwas real?โ€™ โ€˜Iโ€™m afraid so.โ€™ He says, matching my gaze with steely blue eyes. โ€˜Your uncle was a prominent member of our order, famous in our ranksโ€™ this is the first kind word I have ever heard about him. โ€˜My uncle was a lunatic, always going on about monsters and demons. I never believed him. But nowโ€ฆโ€™ โ€˜Aye laddie, you best believe in them nowโ€™ he sits forward, almost in a whisper โ€˜And your bloodlineโ€™s scent is fresh in their mind.โ€™ He stands and walks to a bar cart. โ€˜Few can say they have stared into the abyss and did not blink. Youโ€™re special lad, but special is dangerous on your own. Here, with training and comradely, you can make a difference.โ€™ He pours into two tumblers. โ€˜So what do you say laddie? Ready to follow your uncleโ€™s footsteps and join our brotherhood of Vampire Hunters?โ€™ As he hands me a glass of this whiskey.

This mellowed out over time, which was helpful, but still won't put it higher up on my list.

Taste is honey and leather. Easy drinker with a nice cereal like finish.

This is good. I'm painting it with a premium trail mix from Food Lion. Not gonna lie. It plays. Fruit heat.

Looks like a bourbon, tastes like a scotch. Delicious!!

Vanilla. More cinnamon. Leather. Depth and balance here I'd say. Water flattens out the nose to a nice setting. Also brings sweetness to the front on taste. Pepper. Not sweet like an angel food but more a rising cake in the oven. Big score on this one, enjoyed! More than any other yet this feels like an everyday, like electric sex gleaming in the window. Going bourbon but if we had ranked choice voting I'd put Irish second.

Another high proof spirit, I think. Scotch this time, from the peat (Iโ€™m hoping). Not sure Iโ€™m a fan, but I can see that folks that really like that alcohol punch and like peat would enjoy it.

Quite surprised by this one. Didn't think i would like it based on the nose, but had a good long spicy finish with some hints of sweetness sprinkled throughout. Not really my style of whiskey, but would have again.

Raisin and caramel toffee on nose with a nice oak. Rich taste and nice viscosity . Oaky Fruitcake type taste and smooth for what I would think is higher proof than it gives off. I would guess 20+ year speyside sherry finished. If not itโ€™s damn similar.

'Twas the night of the sixth tasting, still in shock from hearing everyone's "hard pass", I realize I sit here looking like a bit of an ass. However this new whiskey is sweet on the nose, with a bit of fruit in the air. Yet spice crept in, with a bold little flair. I sipped and I swirled, detecting some wheat, A hint of confusion, yet oddly complete. "Is this one a rye?" I pondered anew, Recalling the mix-up from yesterday's brew. A touch of young heat, though not harsh or brash, It danced on the palate, not leaving a clash. With flavors that lingered, both mild and spry, I toasted the momentโ€”a fine whiskey to try.

This had an absolutely lovely nose of rubbing alcohol with a taste reminiscent of kerosine in my throat. whatโ€™s with the high octane choices this year? Very sweet hit when it first hit the tongue though so I maybe see some appeal. It screamed out for some bitters and so I made it into an old fashioned and enjoyed my evening.

This one punched me in the gut like a Jackie Chan Roundhouse kick on the first sip. Luckily, our family fire extinguisher fit directly into my esophagus to extinguish the fire there. I'll be fine by tomorrow.
